Career Objective(s): Write. Own and operate my own bookstore/pub. Write for a newspaper. Employ others. Publish something under a pen name. Cause at least a minor ruckus.

Life Objective(s): Write. Build things. Live by myself for a few years. Never pass up an opportunity to watch baseball. Chop my own firewood. Show, do not tell. Have some sort of iron stove for the chopped firewood. Always have hockey skates and a stick in the trunk of my car. Become well-versed in the mechanical workings of my typewriter. Live next to a railroad. Hope it thunderstorms every night. Learn to write in a different language. Avoid using contractions.

Most Memorable Moment(s): Writing. Summers spent in in Piermont, New Hampshire. Game 163 (circa 2009). Early autumn nights in Fesches-le-Châtel, a beautiful village in the foothills of the Alps. The first time I watched The Usual Suspects. An excursion through the southwest U.S. in a Mustang. Completing 64 percent of Interstate 90. Faribault’s Thundersnow Event of 2011. Reading the novel American Gods.

Favorite whisky: Laphroaig 18

(Listed on an enormous yellow legal pad on my desk are my life objectives. Slowly, they’re being crossed off the list. I love crossing things off lists.)
